Vintage 1930s–40s Purple Wool Handbag – Gold-Tone Frame, Mirror & Coin Purse
Description
A beautiful late 1930s to early 1940s handbag fashioned from rich violet-purple wool, with a softly gathered rounded body and an elegant curved gold-tone metal frame.
The bag closes with an unusual decorative kiss-lock clasp formed from two ribbed, angled fasteners. A matching wool-covered handle allows it to be carried comfortably by hand.
The pale grey fabric interior includes a small framed coin purse and a separate rectangular handbag mirror. These charming surviving accessories add to the bag’s appeal as an original mid-century evening or occasion piece.

Condition
Good vintage condition overall, with signs of age and previous use.
The purple wool has some surface marks, light dust, lint and areas of flattening or variation to the pile. The gold-tone frame and handle fittings show scratches, spotting, tarnish and plating wear.
The pale grey lining is heavily creased and has scattered marks, several small holes and areas of wear around the frame attachment. There is also some fraying and weakness to the interior seams.
The small framed coin purse has staining and discolouration to its fabric, together with tarnish and residue around the metal frame. The mirror has scratches, spotting and deterioration around the edges. The bag remains a wonderfully evocative original piece but should be handled with suitable care.
