Vintage 1930s Navy Pinstripe Blouson Jacket Wide Sailor Collar Green Buttons
Description
An exceptionally unusual original late-1930s women’s blouson jacket or blouse, made from lightweight navy pinstriped fabric and finished with distinctive green early-plastic buttons.
The jacket has an exaggerated wide pointed collar which extends across the shoulders and forms an almost sailor-style panel at the back. The relaxed body is softly gathered into a deep fitted waistband, fastening low at the front with three large green buttons.
Long sleeves finish with dramatic split cuffs, each decorated with five matching green buttons. The pinstripe has been used horizontally around the waistband and collar, contrasting with the vertical stripes of the body and sleeves.
The silhouette is closely associated with late-1930s sportswear and resort clothing. It may originally have formed part of a coordinating beach-pyjama, lounging or trouser ensemble, although only the jacket remains.
There is no surviving maker’s or composition label, and the garment may have been skilfully home sewn.

Condition
Fair antique condition and offered with visible signs of age and wear. The fabric has general fading, surface wear and scattered fading, together with several very small holes, snags and areas of historic repair, particularly around the underarms sleeves and cuffs. There is wear and fraying along portions of the button holes lapel and front edges, with some loose threads around the waistband and fastening.
The green buttons have surface scratching and natural age-related wear, but the set appears complete. The jacket remains structurally wearable with care and displays beautifully, but it is not pristine. Please study all photographs closely.
