Description
A fantastic vintage knitted zip jacket dating from approximately the late 1950s to 1960s, with a distinctly retro ski and sportswear-inspired design.
Knitted in a wonderfully rich heathered burgundy/rust shade, the jacket has a full-length metal front zip and a substantial high ribbed collar which can be worn open or zipped up for warmth.
The real standout feature is the knitted cream and mustard patterned stripe running from the neckline across the shoulders and all the way down the outside of each sleeve. The contrast detailing gives the piece a wonderfully graphic 1970s appearance reminiscent of period ski and après-ski knitwear.
The main body is worked in a pronounced vertical ribbed knit, with wide knitted cuffs and hem. The yarn has a lovely slightly hairy, natural appearance consistent with wool-rich vintage knitwear, although there is no surviving composition label and the fibre content cannot be guaranteed.
There are no visible maker or size labels, and the construction has the character of a particularly well-made vintage piece, potentially hand or cottage knitted.
A fabulous statement piece of vintage knitwear and one that would work brilliantly styled as traditional ski wear, heritage sportswear or simply as an oversized winter cardigan.
