A superb vintage British sporting jumper by Summit Sports, made in Great Britain from 100% pure new wool.
Knitted in a wonderfully deep navy blue, this is a beautifully substantial piece of traditional British knitwear with some particularly interesting construction details.
The body is worked in a classic plain knit with a ribbed crew neckline, cuffs and distinctive knitted hem. Most striking are the specially constructed shoulder and underarm sections, where panels of heavier ribbed knitting have been incorporated into the garment. These reinforced areas give the jumper a distinctly utilitarian sporting character and are reminiscent of traditional shooting, sailing and outdoor knitwear.
The silhouette is wonderfully simple and practical: a straight body, slightly dropped shoulder, long sleeves and neat crew neck. It's exactly the sort of understated British knitwear that works just as well today as it did when made.
The original woven Summit Sports label remains inside and reads:
