Description
An exceptional original late 1920s / early 1930s Art Deco coat with a spectacular oversized real fur shawl collar.
Cut in a deep black wool fabric, the coat has the wonderfully loose, enveloping silhouette characteristic of late 1920s outerwear, with broad dropped shoulders, generous sleeves and a long straight cocoon-style body.
The sleeves are particularly beautiful, finished with sweeping curved bands of applied fabric / corded detailing which create a distinctly Art Deco geometric effect.
Its extraordinary collar is made from rich dark brown real fur, believed to be mink, constructed in individual pelts and extending dramatically around the shoulders before sweeping down the front. At the back it forms an almost cape-like fur collar across the shoulders.
A wonderful survivor from the Jazz Age and an increasingly difficult style of original 1920s coat to find.

Condition
Good antique vintage condition for a garment approaching 100 years old.
There is visible age-related wear to the fur, including areas of thinning / fur loss, particularly around the collar, as shown clearly in the photographs. There may also be minor surface wear, marks, loose fibres and other signs of age to the coat consistent with its considerable age.
The condition has been reflected in the price. Please study all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description.
