1930s Art Deco Green Glass Bead Necklace, Graduated Knotted Czech Crumb Glass Beads, Long Flapper Sautoir
DESCRIPTION
A fabulous original 1930s Art Deco necklace featuring graduated mottled green glass beads, individually knotted onto a soft woven cord.
The beads have a wonderful jade-green colouring with a distinctive speckled or “crumb glass” appearance. This type of decorative glass was produced in Czechoslovakia during the Art Deco period and was sometimes marketed as Peking glass because it imitated the appearance of carved Chinese glass and semi-precious stones.
The graduating design begins with smaller rounded beads before increasing to a series of wonderfully bold statement beads towards the front. Each bead has been individually knotted, both as a decorative feature and to prevent the beads from rubbing directly against one another.
With a drop of approximately 16½ inches, this is a long, continuous flapper-style necklace designed to slip over the head without a clasp. Its generous length and beautiful seafoam-green colouring make it an exceptionally wearable piece of original Art Deco jewellery.
A striking antique necklace that looks just as effective with a simple contemporary outfit as it would with an original 1920s or 1930s ensemble.
