1950s Vintage Bamboo Handbag Wooden Handle Reed Basket Bag Mid Century Summer Purse
Description
A fabulous original vintage bamboo/reed handbag dating from approximately the late 1950s, with a beautifully structured mid-century shape and wonderfully oversized wooden handles.
The body is constructed from fine natural reed or bamboo slats, bound horizontally to create a surprisingly substantial structured bag. Cream woven fabric trims the top, base and sides, while the large curved wooden handles give it that unmistakable sculptural 1950s look.
A particularly lovely example of the natural-material handbags fashionable during the mid-century period, when bamboo, raffia, cane and other woven materials became popular for summer and resort accessories.
It would make a wonderful usable vintage summer handbag, display piece or addition to a collection of mid-century fashion accessories.

Condition
Good vintage condition with age-related wear consistent with a piece of this age.
There is visible wear and discolouration to the cream fabric binding, including some fraying around the upper edges, corners and base. The wooden handles have surface marks, rubbing and wear to the finish. There are also natural variations and some signs of age to the reed/bamboo body.
