Beautiful bespoke tailored 1950s suit copied from a 1930s design hand crafted by Redmayne in a 1929 Harris Tweed
This three-piece suit has a very interesting story. In the late 1920s there were many independent producers that came to the fore on the Isle of Lewis. Maclennan and Maclennan were one of the firms that debated the definition of Harris Tweed®. MacLennan and MacLennan were a firm that was established in 1929 by Colin Orrock, whose father had been a factor to Lord Leverhulme.
MacLennan & MacLennan had its own registered trademark, CEEMO (which is the trademark on your three-piece suit). The firm produced two different types of handwoven tweed. One type contained a large percentage of camel hair and lambswool in the yarn and was sold as Camlan. Another tweed made from a softer imported English mill spun yarn suitable for ladies’ wear was sold as either CEEMO Homespuns or sometimes as CEEMO Harris Tweed.
