A beautifully constructed early to mid-20th-century men’s tailored waistcoat in dark charcoal-black wool, with an especially handsome black figured satin back.
This is a superb traditional piece of men’s tailoring, featuring proper notched lapels, five fabric-covered buttons and four front welt pockets.
Unlike the simple suit waistcoats commonly produced later in the century, this example has a wonderfully detailed construction and elegant longer silhouette. The reverse is particularly striking, made from subtly patterned black figured fabric and finished with a traditional adjustable back strap.
The interior is partly lined in contrasting cream fabric.
Based upon its styling and construction, this appears consistent with approximately 1930s–40s tailoring, although no maker’s label is present and an exact date cannot be guaranteed.
