A fantastic piece of genuine vintage workwear, this long grey chore coat dates approximately to the 1940s–1950s and has all the wonderfully practical detailing associated with mid-century workshop and occupational clothing.
Cut in a long, relaxed silhouette, the coat has a simple notched collar, button front and three generously sized patch pockets – two large hip pockets and a chest pocket. A half belt to the back adds subtle shaping while retaining the loose, functional cut designed to be worn comfortably over clothing.
The grey marled fabric is particularly lovely and gives the coat a wonderfully understated utilitarian appearance. The sleeves can also be turned back at the cuff, as photographed.
Completely unlabelled, its original manufacturer and precise occupational use are unknown. However, the construction, long protective length, oversized storage pockets and uncomplicated finish are strongly characteristic of vintage workwear, workshop or atelier clothing.
A superb piece for a collector of historic workwear, but equally wearable today as an oversized chore coat. It has exactly the relaxed silhouette that has made original European and British workwear so sought after.
