Vintage 1950s Ascot Model Irish Chartreuse Cotton Full Skirt Dress
Description
A superb original 1950s dress by Ascot Model, made in the Republic of Ireland in an unusual chartreuse, pistachio or citrus-green fabric.
The sleeveless bodice has a wide square neckline, broad shoulder straps and a beautifully structured shape. Graduated horizontal tucks decorate the neckline and are repeated around the lower skirt, giving an otherwise understated dress a wonderfully architectural finish.
Three ornate antiqued silver-tone buttons fasten the centre front, while the very full gathered skirt creates a classic 1950s silhouette. The dress closes with an original metal side zip.
Ascot Model was one of the labels manufactured by Jack Toohey & Co. Ltd of Dublin. The company was founded in 1947 and produced clothing under both the Ascot Model and Merrie Jane names. This is an especially attractive example of post-war Irish ready-to-wear.

Condition
Very good vintage condition with gentle signs of age and previous wear. There are some loose threads around the internal label, waistband and buttonholes, together with light creasing and minor age-related wear to the fabric. The metal buttons show a little natural patination. No major damage is visible in the photographs. Please study all images carefully.
