A fabulous original late 1950s / early 1960s wool coat by Balmar of Bond Street, London, with a wonderfully dramatic oversized faux-fur shawl collar.
Cut from 100% pure wool in a beautiful muted taupe / mushroom brown, the coat has a softly structured, slightly swing silhouette typical of the transition from 1950s tailoring into the cleaner lines of the early 1960s.
The real statement is the exceptionally generous plush brown collar, which sweeps across the shoulders and forms a deep V at the front. Combined with the simple button fastening and neat welt pockets, it gives the coat a wonderfully glamorous mid-century look.
Inside is a contrasting dusty rose satin lining and the original woven Balmar – Bond Street, London label, together with the 100% Pure Wool composition label.
A particularly lovely example of British mid-century outerwear and a very wearable piece of vintage fashion.
