An absolutely fabulous original 1970s children's maxi dress in vivid red with red-and-white gingham detailing. A fabulous original 1970s children's prairie maxi dress by St Bernard, labelled Age 8 and Made in England.
This wonderfully theatrical little dress perfectly captures the romantic prairie and country-inspired fashions of the 1970s.
The bright red bodice is framed by dramatic cascading gingham ruffles, edged with delicate white looped trim. Matching gingham is used for the long sleeves and pointed collar, creating a striking contrast against the solid red body of the dress.
The fitted waist falls into a long, gently flared skirt finished with a deep red-and-white gingham ruffle at the hem. Even better, the original matching gingham waist tie remains present and fastens into a bow at the back.
The overall effect is unmistakably 1970s – part prairie dress, part country folk and gloriously over-the-top in exactly the way children's occasion clothing of the period could be.
